Program Opportunities

The Housing Authority of the County of San Joaquin is committed to providing programs and services that will support our residents in becoming economically self-sufficient. To this end, the Authority developed Supportive Services Centers, which offer a wide variety of supportive services that are conveniently located on the grounds of four of the Authority’s public housing developments. Each Center offers services in the area of employment, education, substance abuse, family wellness and youth recreation.

Job training opportunities are provided for residents at each Center. The aim of this training opportunity is to support residents in gaining marketable competitive employment skills and enhance positive work behaviors. The ultimate goal of this program component is to support residents in finding jobs.

Education Services

Education Services provides support to individuals wishing to enhance their skills in a number of critical areas. The Centers use computer-based learning concepts to provide skill enhancement exercises in math, reading and writing. In addition to these core services, GED preparation and ESL instruction are provided.

Substance Abuse Services

Substance Abuse Services offer a variety of treatment and counseling options for individuals currently engaged in substance abuse behavior. Additionally, a number of educational opportunities are provided to ensure the hazards of substance abuse is clearly communicated.

Employment Services

Employment Services offers support to individuals who are looking for work or who want to advance in their current jobs. Each of the following program components support the employment needs of our residents:

  • Job Readiness Training – within a classroom environment, this service addresses the facet of motivation, job search, job readiness and work habits.
  • On-The-Job Training – provides structured, curriculum-based training that supports participants in gaining marketable work skills.
  • Community Job Placement – the Authority’s Job Developer acts as a liaison to the market-place by contacting potential employers and offering support in meeting their hiring needs.

Family Wellness Services

Family Wellness Services offer counseling and other educational opportunities to support families in gaining “life-management” skills. Programs include parenting education, pregnancy prevention, and an extensive information and referral program.

Youth Services

Youth Services provides recreational and educational opportunities that are specifically designed to appeal to this population. Services include tutoring, enrichment activities and community involvement opportunities. The aim of this program component is to provide youth with life enhancing choices.
